Journey To Space Countdown Begins Now!
I'm a GINORMOUS fan of the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Ever since the Endeavor low-rided it's way through the streets of Inglewood, I've made a point to make regular visits to the Science Center. The exhibits and 3D movies are the shiz.
The new exhibit is called Journey To Space. Ever since the 80's movie Space Camp, my dream was to travel into space, just like young Leaf Phoenix (aka Joaquin Phoenix) did in that movie. This exhibit may be the closet I'll ever get to traveling into space like the movie Space Camp.
The Journey to Space Exhibition and Journey to Space 3D opens October 29, 2015. The Science Center will also be holding Space Fest October 30 - November 1. Space Fest is a three-day festival at the California Science Center featuring NASA exhibits, displays and educational demonstrations honoring aeronautics and space explorations past, present and future. Admission to Space Fest is free!
The Journey to Space: The Exhibition gives you a chance to experience the most fascinating and challenging aspects of living and working in space in the harsh, airless environment. Meteoroids soar by at speeds that can make them deadly to astronauts. Temperature fluctuates from burning hot to unbearably cold. It’s up to scientists to develop the technology that keeps astronauts safe. Journey to Space: The Exhibition’s hands-on exhibits and immersive experiences give you a chance to not only see that amazing technology (including Neil Armstrong’s glove), but to try handling some of the challenges of space travel yourself.
People can try out the simulated orbiting space station, operate the robotic arm, and find out how astronauts eat, sleep, and even go to the bathroom in space. Also, experience the disorienting zero gravity rotating chamber and feel what it’s truly like to be in a place where there is no up or down.
